Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are both willing to pay £43 million to sign Celta Vigo forward Maxi Gomez this summer, according to El Gol Digital.

The two Premier League sides are set to go head-to-head in what promises to be a thrilling Champions League final on June 1, with Mauricio Pochettino and Jurgen Klopp both looking to win their first trophy in English football.

But it seems that Spurs and Liverpool will battle in the boardroom too with Gomez a target for both clubs heading into the summer transfer window.

A Uruguayan international who has been described as the new Luis Suarez, Gomez has scored 13 La Liga goals this season, taking his tally to 30 in just two campaigns at the Balaidos.

The 22-year-old is an old-school penalty box poacher with the physicality to thrive in English football. And El Gol Digital claims that Liverpool and Tottenham would both be keen to trigger the hefty £43 million release clause in his contract.

Mundo Deportivo reported in March that Gomez would jump at the chance to follow in Suarez’s footsteps and move to Anfield this summer.
