Premier League duo Liverpool and Newcastle United are competing to sign French winger Brahimi, who is set to leave Championship outfit Boro.

Middlesbrough are in danger of losing one of their brightest talents with Liverpool and local rivals Newcastle United keen to raid the Riverside for winger Bilal Brahimi, according to TEAMtalk.

A 20-year-old wide man who can also play at centre-forward, Brahimi joined Boro from Portuguese outfit Leixoes in 2017 but has only made one first-team appearance for Tony Pulis’s side.

That came in a 2-1 EFL Cup win against Rochdale back in August.

But, with Middlesbrough failing to tie the 18-year-old down to a new contract with his current deal set to expire in the summer, it seems likely the Frenchman will leave the Riverside on a free transfer.

Newcastle are hoping to take advantage by stealing one of the local rival’s most prize assets when the window opens.

Liverpool are also interested, according to TEAMtalk, and working under a manager like Jurgen Klopp could appeal to Brahimi. The German coach was the man who gave a chance to Robert Lewandowski, Mario Gotze, Mats Hummels and Trent Alexander-Arnold after all.

TEAMtalk claims that Ligue 1 outfit Rennes are leading the chase for Brahimi at the moment but a lot can change between now and the summer.

FootMercato broke the news all the way back in June that Liverpool and Newcastle were keen on Brahimi.
