Report: Leicester confident of landing Patrick Roberts as Mahrez replacement

Patrick Roberts has shone in the Scottish Premiership with Celtic and could now return to the Premier League with Leicester City.

The fact that Patrick Roberts is a big money target for Premier League clubs this summer is a sign that his two-and-a-half year loan spell at Celtic can be considered a success.

The Manchester City winger first moved to Glasgow in 2016 and could end his spell with the Scottish Premiership giants with three successive league titles, not to mention two domestic trebles in two seasons.

The 21-year-old Roberts has also developed rapidly under Brendan Rodgers, becoming a far more consistent and well-rounded attacker, and has thus attracted the attention of both Leicester City and West Ham United.

And updated reports in the Mail claim that Leicester are confident of winning the race for the England U21 ace, and it seems as if Roberts could be the replacement for Riyad Mahrez at the King Power Stadium.

After another fine individual campaign, Algerian talisman Mahrez looks set to finally join Manchester City this summer, a few months after Leicester blocked his January move to the Etihad. The Sun claims that City are confident they have secured the signature of the 2016 PFA Player of the Year for a fee of £65 million.

And the fact that Roberts has been lined up to replace him shows what a good job Rodgers and Celtic have done to accelerate his development.
