Italy international Andrea Petagna has scored 14 Serie A goals on loan at SPAL, is he heading to the Premier League with Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester?

Leicester City are eyeing a £17 million summer deal for SPAL striker Andrea Petagna, according to the Guardian.

The Foxes have found goals easier to come by since Brendan Rodgers replaced Claude Puel at the King Power Stadium with Jamie Vardy scoring seven times so far under the former Celtic boss.

But, beyond the former England international, Leicester are lacking in-form attacking options with Shinji Okazaki out of contract and out of favour. The less said about Kelechi Iheanacho, meanwhile, the better.

The Guardian reports that the 2016 Premier League champions are now looking at enhancing their forward options by bringing in Petagna, who has shone on loan at SPAL from Atalanta.

A 23-year-old who has earned one cap for the Italian national team and nearly joined Cardiff City in January, Petagna is an old-school centre-forward who thrives with his back to goal. He has also netted 15 goals in 32 games for a SPAL side in the bottom half of the Serie A table.

And the Guardian claims that Leicester are planning at £17 million bid, though the fact that SPAL have an option to sign Petagna, who started his career at AC Milan, permanently complicates matters.
