Everton have reportedly offered £11.5m for Besiktas’s Domagoj Vida but Premier League rivals Leicester City are going all out for the World Cup hero.
There were a number of Premier League teams sniffing around the Besiktas defender Domagoj Vida before the World Cup kicked off, but the 29-year-old’s superb performances for Croatia in Russia have only enhanced his reputation.
Vida has been one of the unsung heroes of the tournament so far, his commanding display against Argentina playing a major role in Croatia’s outstanding 3-0 win.
And although West Ham and Fulham have been linked, it seems that two English sides are pulling clear in the race to sign him.
Sabah is reporting that Everton made an offer of £11.5 million for a versatile, physically imposing defender who should massively improve a Toffees defence that conceded far too many soft goals last season.
But Everton’s bid has sparked Leicester City into action. Sabah claims that the Foxes have now offered around £12.4 million for Vida in an attempt to beat the Merseyside giants to his signature.
It seems that both clubs will have to offer way more than that, however. Besiktas want £16 million for Vida, despite the fact they only signed him on a free transfer from Dinamo Kiev as recently as December.
The Turkish giants are in the money. And it will be interesting to see whether another impressive Vida performance in the World Cup round of 16 against Denmark on Sunday will encourage either Leicester or Everton to up their bids a little more.
