Former Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Portsmouth supremo Ian Broomfield could be set to return to Leeds United.

Leeds United are eyeing up a move for veteran scout Ian Broomfield in a surprise move which could spur them on in the transfer window, the Daily Star reports.

The 66-year-old has spent the last two and a half seasons bringing bargains into White Hart Lane, with the likes of Dele Alli, Eric Dier and Toby Alderweireld all arriving at Tottenham Hotspur during his second spell at the club.

The Daily Star reports that Broomfield was heavily involved in the deal that took Alli from League One club MK Dons to the very top of the English game, having scouted the teenager extensively during his breakthrough years in the lower leagues.

He also worked as a chief analyser for Aston Villa and Portsmouth, helping the latter to FA Cup success in 2008, after spending five years in the same role for Leeds between 1998 and 2003.

And, 14 years later, he could be set to return to Elland Road with a reputation as one of the English game’s most astute scouting experts.

Broomfield spent an initial spell with Spurs during Harry Redknapp’s widely successful reign and played a major role in the signings of Luke Modric, Gareth Bale, Rafael Van Der Vaart, Dimitar Berbatov and Hugo Lloris.

Therefore, his eye for a bargain is unquestioned and, although Leeds have utilised the market particularly well this season, his experience could be vital in the final weeks of the January transfer window.
