Leeds United want a new goalkeeper at Elland Road and are reportedly eyeing Birmingham City’s David Stockdale and Manchester City’s Angus Gunn.
Leeds United’s search for a new goalkeeper has been ongoing for some time but it seems the Championship giants have now narrowed down their search to two options – Angus Gunn and David Stockdale.
The 22-year-old, who is the son of Norwich legend Bryan, is one of the most highly-rated young goalkeepers in the country and has been training with the senior England squad before they jet out for the World Cup in Russia.
And the YEP believes Leeds have identified David Stockdale as a back-up if they cannot get a deal for Gunn, who allegedly has attracted interest from a number of other clubs such as Stoke City and Celtic, over the line.
Stockdale has been told that he has no place in Garry Monk’s plans at Birmingham City and will therefore be free to leave, one year after he helped Brighton secure their place in the Premier League.
It is understood that Leeds are looking into the 32-year-old’s situation at St Andrews and have now stepped up their interest; although it seems that Gunn is the man they really want. The report adds that the Whites are waiting to see whether City will let him leave on loan for another season.
It is up for debate, however, whether Leeds have it the wrong way round. Stockdale has been one of the best Championship goalkeepers in recent seasons and his experience could make him a fine mentor for Bailey Peacock-Farrell.
Gunn, while obviously talented, is less proven by comparison.
