Leicester City appear to be the favourites to land Sheffield Wednesday starlet George Hirst but Leeds United are still in the chase.

Sheffield Wednesday will have done very well if George Hirst is still at Hillsborough beyond the transfer deadline.
The 18-year-old striker is one of the most in-demand young players in the country, with a number of Premier League clubs linked. The Mail reported that Arsenal, Manchester United, Newcastle and Everton are interested but it appears that Leicester City are now leading the chase.

However, that has not stopped Leeds United considering a late approach of their own. The Mail reported in February of last year that Leeds were tracking the development of Hirst, son of Wednesday legend David.
And, 16 months on, it appears that they have one last chance to land the teenage sensation with Leicester closing in. The report claims that they too are hopeful of striking a deal late in the transfer window.
Hirst is a prolific goal-scorer in the Owls’ youth ranks and also boasts four goals in five appearances for England’s Under-20s. However, thanks to the glut of strikers already jostling for a place at Wednesday, Hirst has been restricted to just two senior appearances for the club.

Whether he would get more opportunities at Leeds is up for debate. However, he could be inspired by the fact that a number of young players have emerged through Elland Road in recent years, including Sam Byram, Lewis Cook and most recently Ronaldo Vieira.
Hirst has only one year remaining on his contract and Wednesday are facing a difficult decision about whether or not to cash in on their most exciting young player. Needless to say, selling him to Yorkshire rivals Leeds would not go down well.
