Marcelo Bielsa worked with Iturraspe in La Liga and a reunion could be on the cards if Leeds United are promoted to the Premier League.
Leeds United are targeting an ambitious deal that would see Ander Iturraspe move to Elland Road on a free transfer from Athletic Bilbao next summer, according to AS.
A 30-year-old central midfielder, Iturraspe has been a Bilbao player for his entire professional career but it seems his time at the San Mames is coming to an end.
The veteran’s contract is due to expire in the summer and AS reports that he is not part of the club’s plans going forward.
Iturasspe has made just one La Liga start all season, with his only other appearance coming from the substitute’s bench.
AS claims that the two-time Spain international could be on his way to West Yorkshire.
It was Marcelo Bielsa who made Iturraspe a key player at Athletic after all; the Argentine coach handing the midfielder 65 La Liga appearances in his spell in the dugout between 2011 and 2013.
Iturraspe shone as the Basque giants reached the Europa League and Copa Del Rey final under Bielsa.
He was then named in the La Liga team of the season at the end of the 2013/14 season, although his importance has declined since then.
AS reports that a reunion with Bielsa at Leeds could now be on the cards, particularly if the Whites are promoted to the Premier League.
