Mallik Wilks shone on loan at Doncaster Rovers but will he reunite with Grant McCann at Leeds United’s Championship rivals Hull City?
Hull City have held talks with Leeds United about signing young striker Mallik Wilks, according to the Hull Daily Mail, with Grant McCann desperate to reunite with a player he coached at Doncaster Rovers last season.
The 20-year-old has risen through the ranks at Leeds but it seems unlikely that he will follow in the footsteps of Lewis Cook, Kalvin Phillips and co by establishing himself as a first-team regular at Elland Road.
Wilks is yet to play a single Championship game in the famous white shirt and, according to the report, he will be sold this summer if an acceptable offer arrives.
Barnsley are keen after landing another Leeds youngster in Aapo Halme, as reported by the Yorkshire Post, but the presence of McCann in the Hull dugout should give The Tigers a big advantage over the South Yorkshire outfit.
After all, Wilks made huge strides under McCann on loan at Doncaster last season, scoring an impressive 16 goals in League One. And Hull have now held talks with the Leeds-born striker about a potential move to the KCom Stadium.
“The lad has got everything to play in the Championship, whether that’s with Leeds, us or somebody else. He’s got all the attributes,” the former Peterborough United boss told the Doncaster Free Press earlier in the year.
Could it be McCann who gives Wilks the chance to prove that he belongs at this level?
