Report: Leeds’ Angus Gunn chances potentially increased if Bielsa arrives

Championship club Leeds United have reportedly chosen Manchester City’s Premier League goalkeeper Angus Gunn as a summer target.

Leeds United might not have to wait until a ball is kicked to see the benefits of appointing Marcelo Bielsa.

One of the most influential coaches in 21st century football could give Leeds quite the boost in the transfer market, too; particularly as he has a rather substantial array of contacts from decades in top level management.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Bielsa’s seemingly impending arrival could help Leeds solve their goalkeeping problem.

The Whites are understood to be keen on Manchester City’s young Englishman Angus Gunn, although they will have to compete with a number of rival clubs with the Sun claiming that Stoke City and Celtic are also big fans of the former Norwich City loanee.

But the YEP points out that Bielsa’s arrival could give Leeds a big boost in their pursuit of their goalkeeping target. The 62-year-old Argentine has a fantastic relationship with City counterpart Pep Guardiola, after all.

Guardiola famously described Bielsa as the ‘best coach in the world’ last summer, adding; “He helped me a lot with his advice. Whenever I speak with him I always feel like he wants to help me.”

So Guardiola will surely trust Bielsa to develop a young goalkeeper he rates very highly. The former Chile, Bilbao and Marseille coach is renowned for his possession-based philosophy and could hone Gunn’s ball-playing skills, which will only enhance his hopes of a future role at the Etihad Stadium.
