Have Premier League side Liverpool finally seen the last of forgotten winger Lazar Markovic amid links with a return to Belgium’s Jupiler League?

You’d be forgiven for forgetting that Lazar Markovic is technically still a Liverpool player.
The Serbian winger, a high-profile £20 million signing from Benfica in 2014, hasn’t played a single match for The Reds at a competitive level for three years. In that time, he has spent time out on loan at Fenerbahce, Sporting Lisbon, Hull City and, last season, Anderlecht.
Obviously, having failed to make a single appearance under Jurgen Klopp, Markovic is not in the plans of Liverpool’s German coach. And it is expected that he will bid farewell on before the end of the transfer window today.
Het Nieuwsblad claims that Anderlecht have held talks about bringing the 24-year-old back to Belgium, this time on a permanent basis.
Markovic was badly lacking match fitness when he first arrived at the Constant Vanden Stock in January but, once he got up to speed, made an impressive impact in Belgium.

And the report adds that Liverpool have ‘drastically’ reduced their asking price in order to get Markovic off the books. His wage demands, however, are understood to be a potential stumbling block for Anderlecht at present.
But if he wants to get his career back on track, he will leave Liverpool today.
The former Partizan Belgrade youngster made just 19 Premier League appearances for the Reds during Brendan Rodgers’ time in charge, most of those coming in an unfamiliar right-wing back role.
