Kostas Mitroglou flopped in the Premier League but that did not stop Cardiff City from allegedly trying to bring him to South Wales.
Cardiff City were among three Premier League clubs who failed to sign Kostas Mitroglou on transfer deadline day, according to Sabah.
The 30-year-old striker had endured a difficult season for Marseille, scoring three times in 14 Ligue 1 appearances for Rudi Garcia’s crisis-ridden side. Despite his poor run of form, however, it seems that there was a lot of interest before the Turkish international joined Galatasaray on an 18-month loan deal.
Sabah believes three Premier League clubs made offers for Mitroglou, including a Cardiff side who need to find the net more regularly if they are to avoid an immediate return to the Championship.
This is despite the fact that Mitroglou flopped spectacularly during his previous spell in the top flight of English football.
Fulham paid £12 million to sign the forward from Olympiakos five years ago (the Standard) but he made just three appearances in an injury-hit six months at Craven Cottage, failing to drag Felix Magath’s side away from the relegation zone.
Fortunately for Cardiff, Bobby Reid stepped up on Saturday, scoring twice in a vital win against Bournemouth while doubling his season’s tally in the process.
