Premier League title chasers Liverpool need new defenders and could reportedly target Klopp’s former Borussia Dortmund centre-back Ginter.

Jurgen Klopp could look to reunite with the German international defender Matthias Ginter at Liverpool this summer, according to Calciomercato.
The Reds’ lack of depth at centre-back has been exposed by a recent injury crisis, which has seen Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren spend extended periods on the sidelines. Joel Matip has often come in to partner Virgil Van Dijk but has not particularly convinced, nearly scoring own goals against Bayern Munich and Manchester United.
As a result, the Sun reported last month that Klopp was hoping to bring in some defensive reinforcements in the summer. And it seems that Ginter, a player he knows well, is top of his list.
The affable coach was in charge of Borussia Dortmund when they signed Ginter from Freiburg back in 2014, Goal reporting that they had paid £9 million for the youngest member of Germany’s 2014 World Cup winning squad.

The 25-year-old failed to really make the grade at Dortmund but has impressed since making the switch to Monchengladbach in 2017.
Ginter has been excellent at the back, with Dieter Hecking’s side sitting third in the table with the second best defensive record in the league.
And Calciomercato believes that, should Ginter arrive, he will replace Matip at Anfield.
