Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool failed to bring Piotr Zielinski to the Premier League in 2016 and he has since starred in Serie A with Napoli.
Liverpool’s links with Piotr Zielinski are not going away.
Ever since Jurgen Klopp was appointed at Anfield a few years ago, the highly-rated Polish midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Merseyside.
According to the Mirror, Liverpool offered £11.5 million to sign Zielinski from Udinese in 2016, only for Napoli to beat them to the punch. Two years on, however, and it seems that signing the 24-year-old is still high on Klopp’s to-do list.
Calciomercato claims that the former Borussia Dortmund and Mainz coach is still following Zielinski’s progress closely and remains a huge fan. And, while Liverpool will not be making a move in January, the report adds, next summer could see Zielinski become a gossip column regular.
The attacking midfielder currently has a release clause in his contract standing at around £58 million; which is rather fair in today’s market.
Napoli, however, want to tie Zielinski down to a new deal with a vastly improved clause, which would be closer to £100 million. So Liverpool could be forced to pay big if they want to sign a player they failed to get for just £11 million two years ago.
