Nottingham Forest sacked Aitor Karanka for failing to lead the Championship club back to the Premier League – is he set for Almeria?

Aitor Karanka, Manager of Nottingham Forest looks on prior to the Sky Bet Championship match between Millwall and Nottingham Forest at The Den on December 29, 2018 in London, England.

Arvin Appiah and Aitor Karanka could be about to be reunited. According to The Sun (15 September, page 63) the former Nottingham Forest boss has been headhunted to take over at Spanish second tier outfit Almeria – the club who have just paid £8 million to sign one of the most exciting young talents at the City Ground.

Segunda side Almeria certainly caused a stir in early September when they paid a club-record fee to sign England U19 international Appiah. The takeover by Turki Al-Sheikh certainly helped with the nouveau-riche Rojiblancos signing Roma wonderkid Ante Coric just weeks earlier too.

Almeria haven’t featured in La Liga since 2015 but, with the club spending big and snapping up two of Europe’s most exciting young forward, the pressure to succeed is well and truly on.

And, according to The Sun, they could turn to Karanka in an attempt to reach the promised land at the earliest possible opportunity.

The former Middlesbrough and Real Madrid coach has been out of work since being fired by Nottingham Forest in January but could he be seduced by the Ameria project?

It was Karanka who handed Appiah his debut at Nottingham Forest and, in quotes reported by Football Ghana in August 2018, the Spaniard described the Amsterdam-born forward as a ‘very good player’.
