Premier League leaders Liverpool were reportedly set to lose Rafa Camacho to Primeira Liga side Sporting Lisbon.

With Liverpool four points clear at the top of the Premier League table, this really wasn’t an ideal time to suffer a defensive injury crisis.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was ruled out for a month with a knee injury on Tuesday, just a week after Nathaniel Clyne left to join Bournemouth on loan. As a result, Jurgen Klopp is facing a real problem due to the lack of right-backs available.

So this is perhaps why the Reds boss has blocked Rafa Camacho’s move to Sporting Lisbon.

According to the Daily Record, the 18-year-old had agreed to join the Primeira Liga club on loan until the end of the season but Klopp has decided to keep him at Anfield instead.

Given that Camacho was handed his first-team debut at right-back in the recent FA Cup defeat to Wolves, it seems the Portuguese starlet could have a role to play in the absence of Alexander-Arnold.

Camacho is one of the most exciting young players at Anfield right now and he made his name in a more advanced role for the club’s U23 side. He has scored seven goals and set up eight more in all competitions at youth level this season.
