After just eight appearances and two months, Jonny Hayes may already be on his way out of Celtic.
It is fair to say Jonny Hayes would have hoped for a better start to life at Celtic. The Scottish champions pulled out all the stops to sign the winger from last season’s runners-up Aberdeen for £1.3 million, via The Express, and the deal appeared to make perfect sense at the time.
Hayes was arguably the league’s best performer outside of Parkhead last season, nominated for the PFA Scotland Player of the Year award in each of the last two campaigns.
However, he is yet to make the impact expected of him under Brendan Rodgers, starting just one of Celtic’s first three league fixtures, thanks in part to the electric form of Scott Sinclair and James Forrest.
The return of Patrick Roberts on another loan deal from Manchester City threatens to push the 30-year-old even further down the pecking order.
On the move again?
As such, TEAMtalk reports that Hayes is already facing an uncertain future in green and white. Cardiff City, who were disappointed to miss out on the winger this summer, have informed Celtic that they would be willing to take him on loan if he has no immediate future with the Glasgow giants.
And the report adds that Celtic are considering the offer. They signed Hayes as a replacement for Roberts, believing he would not be allowed to return to the club from City this summer.
However, Roberts’ sudden arrival renders Hayes somewhat obsolete. Therefore, after just eight goalless appearances in Celtic’s colours, the four-time Republic of Ireland international may be on his way out of the door already.
