Frank Lampard has been appointed as the new manager of Championship giants Derby County – but will his former Chelsea and England pal join him?

Frank Lampard hardly played down suggestions that he could make a move to bring his former Chelsea and England team-mate John Terry to Derby County this summer?

In quotes reported by the Derby Telegraph, the newly appointed Rams manager gave little away when asked if a deal for Terry could be possible – but did reveal that his former Stamford Bridge captain had got in touch.

“I haven’t even got that far and I haven’t even had a conversation with John. That’s the truth – I got a text message off him this morning (Wednesday) but he’s on holiday,” Lampard admitted.

“I’ll look at it as a big picture – that’s how I’ll get out of that question!”

But latest reports in the Daily Star are claiming that Terry will be a Derby player next season in what would be one of the most eye-catching transfers of the close season.

The report claims that Terry has already agreed to move to Pride Park and re-unite with his close friend Lampard. They won four Premier League titles together at Chelsea and Derby fans will be hoping that they can team up for even more success in the East Midlands.

Terry, however, would need to take a massive pay-cut to join Derby. He earned £60,000-a-week at Aston Villa last season, with his wages so high that the Midland giants couldn’t afford to keep him after losing the play-off final due to fears of breaching Financial Fair Play sanctions.

37-year-old Terry rolled back the years with a terrific season at Aston Villa, proving a major influence off the field while earning a place in the Championship Team of the Year.

So what a way this would be the start the Lampard era.
