Rangers and Celtic reportedly want Sligo Rovers’ John Mahon, along with Championship duo Blackburn Rovers and Derby County.

Old Firm rivals Celtic and Rangers are both interested in signing the highly-rated Irishman John Mahon, according to the Express (19 February, page 47).
A 19-year-old centre-back, Mahon is currently plying his trade in his homeland with Sligo Rovers, who finished seventh in the League of Ireland last season. The teenager was a regular in the side, making 24 league appearances.
And the Express reports that he has caught the eye of a number of clubs in England and Scotland. Celtic scout Willie McStay is understood to have watched Mahon during Friday’s 1-1 draw with Dundalk while Rangers have also run the rule over the defender of late.
There is also interest from the English Championship in the shape of Blackburn Rovers and Derby County.
Interestingly, it is understood that Mahon would prefer a move to Celtic than Rangers, perhaps due to the connection between Ireland and Brendan Rodgers’ Scottish Premiership champions.

There could also be space for a new centre-back at Parkhead, given that Dedryck Boyata and Filip Benkovic are expected to leave at the end of the season.
Mahon has 18 months left on his contract and the Express adds that Sligo will demand a six-figure sum.
