North London and Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are reportedly stepping up pursuit of Sampdoria’s Serie A centre-back

The need for a new centre-back has seen Tottenham Hotspur hedge their bets.
Over the last few months, a vast number of highly-rated defenders have been reportedly lined up for a switch to North London in the New Year. But, as it stands, it seems that Joachim Andersen is closer than anyone to joining Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
The 22-year-old Dane has shone in Serie A for Sampdoria since arriving from FC Twente in 2017 – and has therefore attracted the attention of some of the biggest clubs on the continent, including Tottenham.
North London calling
And according to Calciomercato, Andersen’s agent travelled to England on Thursday for talks with Tottenham.
Spurs are not the only North London side who are considering the Denmark U21 international, however.

Calciomercato adds that Andersen’s representatives also held talks with Arsenal – meaning a bitter battle between the two capital city neighbours could be bubbling beneath the surface.
Recent reports from the same publication claimed that Sampdoria’s ‘characterful’ president Massimo Ferrero will demand £22 million for his prized asset, a fee that would hardly break the bank even for a Tottenham side needing to fund the construction of their new stadium.
