The 24-year-old continues to find first-team football hard to come by with Southampton but he would surely get more opportunities at Ipswich Town.
With just three days of the transfer window remaining, Ipswich Town look no closer to securing the signing of Barnsley’s Marley Watkins. However, according to The Sun, Mick McCarthy may have identified a rather intriguing alternative.
Sky Sports claimed last week that the Tykes dynamo, who has six goals and seven assists to his name this season, had handed in a transfer request amid reported interest from Portman Road.

A few days later, however, Mick McCarthy confirmed in typically emphatic fashion that key man Tom Lawrence would remain on loan for the remainder of the season, meaning the need for a new midfielder in January is not quite as pressing as it might have been had Leicester decided to sell the youngster from under Ipswich’s nose.
Nonetheless, the lack of traction in the Watkins deal could have pushed McCarthy towards pursuing Lloyd Isgrove, one of many technically gifted Southampton graduates, the Sun reports.
The talented attacker is no budding youngster with the whole of his career lying ahead of him. Isgrove is 24 and, with just one Premier League appearance to his name, looks increasingly likely to look elsewhere in search of opportunities.

The once-capped Wales international, who is also capable on the wing or up front, excelled on loan at Barnsley last season, although his career statistics will elicit some concern. In 62 professional appearances, Isgrove has only found the net twice.
However, Lawrence arrived in the South West in a similar rut in the summer and it is tempting to believe Isgrove can finally find his feet with consistent game time in Ipswich colours.
