Ragnar Klavan could leave Premier League giants Liverpool in August and Jurgen Klopp has plenty of options to replace him at Anfield – including Phillips.

Jurgen Klopp has shown no qualms about giving youth a chance throughout his managerial career. And since taking charge of Liverpool in 2015, the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez and Ben Woodburn have been given their chance to establish themselves as key members of the squad.

And it seems that the next fresh-faced youngster to emerge off the Anfield production line is one Nat Phillips.

Alongside the likes of Rafael Camacho and Curtis Jones, the 21-year-old centre-back shone during Liverpool’s pre-season tour, particularly during the 4-1 thrashing of Manchester United. The Liverpool fans were certainly impressed and it seems that Klopp was too.

Because the Liverpool Echo suggests that Phillips could be set for a role in The Reds’ first-team plans this season with his rise potentially having an impact on the future of Ragnar Klavan.

It is claimed that the 32-year-old Estonian could leave before the end of August. Klopp blocked a move to Newcastle last week but he is now open to letting Klavan go elsewhere.

And along with the return to fitness of Joel Matip, the Liverpool Echo suggests that Phillips could be used as cover for the season ahead with the former Borussia Dortmund and Mainz coach a big fan of the talented defender.
