After an excellent spell at Celtic, Patrick Roberts could reportedly be handed his long-awaited Premier League chance with Huddersfield Town.
Few would have expected that Patrick Roberts would still be a Manchester City player on transfer deadline day.
The England U21 winger looked set to be the centre of plenty of speculation this summer with The Express reporting back in May that West Ham and Leicester City were preparing bids for a player valued at £15 million.
West Ham and Leicester eventually turned their attention to other targets, however. So despite a fantastic two-and-a-half year loan spell at Celtic, in which Roberts won the Scottish Premiership title three times, he is in danger of six months stuck in limbo at City.
Though The Mail (live blog, 9.50am) reports that Huddersfield Town will make a deadline day move to try and rescue the former Fulham youngster from his Etihad purgatory.
Though rather than pay the £15 million Manchester City would reportedly demand, it is reported that Huddersfield want to sign Roberts on a season-long loan.
The Terriers have already signed one new winger in Adama Diakhaby with Montpellier’s Isaac Mbenza seemingly set to arrive too for £13.5 million, according to The Mail. So Roberts could complete a new look attack for David Wagner’s side, who scored the joint fewest goals in the Premier League last season.
Man City signed Roberts in 2015 for £11 million.
