Leon Balogun has been a regular in the Bundesliga with Mainz 05 and could join Premier League Huddersfield Town on a free.

With three games left to go in the Premier League season, Huddersfield Town face an anxious wait to discover whether they will be playing top tier football in 2018/19.
The Terriers are currently outside the drop zone but face Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal in a brutal end to their maiden Premier League campaign.

Nonetheless, it seems that Huddersfield are still close to wrapping up their first signing of the summer transfer window, despite the fact no one can be totally sure what division David Wagner’s side will be in.
The Sun reports that Huddersfield are in talks to bring in Mainz’s experienced defender Leon Balogun when his contract expires in the summer. The 29-year-old, a Berlin-born Nigerian international, has been with the O5s since 2015 and, like Huddersfield, Mainz are in danger of relegation with just two games to go in the Bundesliga.

Balogun can play at centre-half or right-back and would join a large contingent of former Bundesliga players at the John Smith’s Stadium, including Pascal Gross and Elias Kachunga.
If Huddersfield do survive, a feat Wagner claimed would be a miracle, much of that will go down to the excellent recruitment strategy with Gross, Christopher Schindler and Aaron Mooy brought in for bargain deals.
Balogun would be another astute addition.
