Danny Cowley allegedly wants to stay at League One Lincoln City despite being offered a Championship job with Huddersfield Town.

Huddersfield Town agreed a £1 million compensation fee with Lincoln City over manager Danny Cowley while offering him a massive pay rise, according to the Sun (4 September, page 54) but the highly-rated coach turned down a move to the John Smith’s Stadium.
In the space of three years, Cowley has taken Lincoln from non-league to second in the third tier, via a run to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. No wonder the 40-year-old has plenty of admirers from up and down the land.
The Sun claims that Huddersfield agreed to pay £1 million in compensation as they attempted to lure Cowley away from Lincoln. The Terriers also offered Cowley, plus his brother and assistant Nicky, £1.5 million a year, a huge increase in their current £140,000 annual wage at Sincil Bank.
But with just four places separating Lincoln and Championship strugglers Huddersfield in the Football League pyramid, Cowley has turned down the chance to succeed Jan Siewert in Yorkshire.

“It would have to be a perfect opportunity for us to leave Lincoln. We have built something special here and the timing isn’t right for us to walk way,” he said.
Cowley has a point. Lincoln are dreaming of a third successive promotion and bringing Championship football to Sincil Bank with the former Concorn Rangers and Braintree Town boss continuing to do an outstanding job at an ambitious and upwardly mobile club.
It feels like there are still a few chapters left in the Cowley story.
