Gael Kakuta could reportedly return to the Premier League after that forgettable spell at Chelsea with David Wagner’s Huddersfield Town allegedly interested.
Three years after finally bringing an end to his Chelsea career, Gael Kakuta could return to England in a shock deal.
It is understood that the Terriers are in talks with Kakuta while La Liga side Leganes, who are now managed by ex-Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino, are also keen to bring him back to Spain after spells with Rayo Vallecano, Sevilla and Deportivo La Coruna.
Kakuta, who is still owned by Chinese Super League outfit Hebei China Fortune, scored six goals and assisted six more during last season’s loan spell at Amiens. He is an inconsistent but exciting winger capable of producing something out of nothing, not to mention a fine free-kick.
Kakuta would add some much needed pace and creativity to a Huddersfield side that avoided relegation from the Premier League despite scoring just 28 goals in 38 games, the joint-lowest tally in the entire division.
Big things were expected from Kakuta when he eventually arrived at Chelsea from Lens in 2009, a deal that caused plenty of controversy due to reported allegations of a breached contract that resulted in the Stamford Bridge outfit being handed a transfer ban.
But Kakuta managed just six Premier League appearances for Chelsea and represented seven different clubs on loan during his six years contracted to the London giants.
