Championship side Leeds United have been in talks to sign Gavin Whyte from Crusaders – but League Two Crawley Town have made an offer.

Leeds United’s hopes of signing Crusaders’ highly-rated winger Gavin Whyte could be scuppered by a former Elland Road player this summer.
Whyte’s 21 goals fired Crusaders to a third league title in four years while earning him the Ulster Player of the Year award to boot.

It is understood that his Crawley Town side have leapt to the front of the queue by making an offer to sign the Northern Ireland U21 ace. Kewell’s assistant at the Checkatrade.com Stadium is the former NI international Warren Feeney, who has been keeping a close eye on Whyte’s progress.
And though the Belfast Telegraph adds that Leeds are interested, they have not yet made a formal offer for a player who previously admitted that he sees current Elland Road star Stuart Dallas, who also represented Crusaders in his formative years, as an inspiration.

It will be interesting to see whether Kewell’s Crawley will encourage Leeds to now step up their interest in arguably Northern Ireland’s most promising talent.
