Leeds United’s failure to break down Preston North End has encouraged them to intensify their pursuit of Pierre-Michel Lasogga.

After Leeds United failed to break down Preston North End in Saturday’s goalless draw at Elland Road, despite the visitors playing the final half an hour a man light after Ben Pearson’s dismissal, reports that they are closing in on Pierre Michel Lasogga are perfectly timed.

According to the Daily Mail, the 25-year-old Hamburg striker travelled to West Yorkshire at the weekend and Leeds are increasingly confident that a deal can be struck.

The report adds that Lasogga, who is one of the highest earning players at the German giants, has been told he can leave this summer as they aim to slash their wage budget.

And it appears that, while Leeds are keen to seal a deal, most likely a season-long loan, the player himself is also keen to sign on the dotted line.

Hamburger Morgenpost reported that Thomas Christiansen’s side will step up their pursuit after failing to find the net in their first home league fixture of the season while adding that Lasogga would jump at the chance of trying his hand at Elland Road.

Despite the summer signing of Caleb Ekuban from Chievo, and Samu Saiz’s debut hat-trick in the EFL Cup thrashing of Port Vale in midweek, further attacking options wouldn’t go amiss for Leeds, particularly with last-season’s top scorer Chris Wood attracting plenty of interest from the Premier League.

However, Leeds would be hoping that Lasogga can replicate his lethal form from 2013/14, netting 13 goals in just 18 Bundesliga starts.

Because, in the last three seasons, Lasogga has hit the net just 13 times in 76 appearances with a series of injuries proving problematic.
