Glasgow Rangers saw David Bates leave Ibrox for absolutely nothing and now Bundesliga duo Bayern Munich and Dortmund are reportedly keen.

David Bates has only been a Hamburg player for a matter of months, but it seems that a spell in the German second tier has done him the world of good.
According to TEAMtalk, a number of teams in England and Germany have been very impressed by the Scotland U21 international’s performances at the Volkspark Stadion, including Everton, Leicester City, Watford and Arsenal.
To make matters worse for Rangers, who lost Bates on a free in the summer after they failed to meet his £7,000-a-week wage demands, TEAMtalk adds that Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich are both interested.
While Rangers’ hard-line approach might have backfired spectacularly, Hamburg’s plan could be about to work exactly as they had hoped.
According to the Hamburger Morgenpost, the 1983 European Cup winners signed Bates on a free with the idea of selling him on – most likely to a club in England – for a handsome profit.

If Arsenal or Bayern Munich pay a big fee for Bates in 2019, after he spends another few months honing his trade in the German second tier, Rangers will surely have been left wondering whether they should have just given the former Raith Rovers man the contract he felt he deserved.
