Celtic are in a race against time in their attempts to bring a new centre-back to Parkhead.

Fortunately, it seems that Groningen’s Bosnian international Samir Memisevic is up for a move to Scotland before the end of August.

Celtic have been linked with a number of centre-backs of late from Brendan Rodgers former Chelsea youth teamer Jeffrey Bruma to their 2014/15 loanee Jason Denayer. And the latest is Memisevic, a 25-year-old who has impressed during the last two seasons in Dutch football.

Memisevic has been a regular starter for Groningen since his 2016 move from Radnik and is renowned for his aerial prowess and ability to snuff out danger with his intelligent positional sense.

And according to Bosnian publication Oslobedenje, Memisevic would not think twice about seizing his chance to wear the green and white hoops of Celtic. It is claimed that, should an offer arrive, the 6ft 1ins centre-back would be very interested in a move to Glasgow.

Which should make this deal a little easier to complete.

Memisevic would perhaps act as a replacement for the exit-linked Dedryck Boyata, who Fanatik claims is in talks with Turkish giants Fenerbahce and Galatasaray.

He would also provide competition for Kristoffer Ajer, Jozo Simunovic and the struggling Jack Hendry.
