Scottish Premiership giants Rangers have been linked with the likes of Preston’s Alex Neil and Kilmarnock’s Steve Clarke, with Murty likely to leave Ibrox.

Graeme Murty seemed to have the fans and players onside when he replaced Pedro Caixinha in the Ibrox dugout back in October.

The former U20 boss was promoted to the top job once Caixinha had been given the boot and, after Rangers missed out on top managerial targets like Derek McInnes and Michael O’Neil, was handed the reigns until the end of the season.

But Murty’s position was damaged substantially by the 4-0 thrashing by Old Firm rivals Celtic in last week’s Scottish Cup semi-final, after which Kenny Miller and Lee Wallace were suspended for allegedly launching stinging criticism at their 43-year-old manager.

And the Daily Record is now reporting that it is highly unlikely that Murty will still be Rangers’ first-team manager next season.

This should perhaps come as little surprise, given that a number of candidates have been heavily linked with the Glasgow giants in the aftermath of that humiliating performance at Parkhead.

Kilmarnock manager Steve Clarke is seen during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Celtic and Kilmarnock at Celtic Park Stadium on October 28, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

The likes of Preston North End boss Alex Neil and former Ibrox hero Frank de Boer are two of the bookies favourites as things stand while former Gers striker Steven Thompson told the BBC that he expects an offer to be made for Steve Clarke (above), who has done an excellent job at Kilmarnock.

And, interestingly, the agent of former Ajax manager Marcel Keizer admitted last week that his client would be interested in the job.
