Celtic’s hopes of luring Trevor Carson to Parkhead from Scottish Premiership rivals Motherwell are hanging in the balance.

Celtic appear no closer to signing a new goalkeeper capable of filling the boots of the injured Craig Gordon.
The veteran ‘keeper will be on the sidelines for about three months and there are a whole host of options that Celtic appear to be considering. The Daily Record claim they are in talks to hijack Aberdeen’s bid for Newcastle United youngster Freddie Woodman.

But it appears that the top target is Motherwell’s Trevor Carson. The 29-year-old has been one of the league’s best shot-stoppers since arriving from Hartlepool United in the summer and it is understood that Celtic have made two bids so far.
And with a dream move to Parkhead looking increasingly unlikely, the Daily Record report that Carson is ‘heartbroken’ to be denied his big break just a few months after he was playing in the fourth tier of English football.

Motherwell understandably do not want to sell the Northern Irishman on the cheap, even if he hands in a transfer request before the window slams shut.
Fortunately, Celtic appear to have a sizeable list of alternatives lined up.
