One of the worst kept secrets in European club football appears to be out – Andre Gomes wants to leave Barcelona.

The Portuguese international has endured a nightmare two year spell at the Camp Nou on an individual level, despite the Catalan giants’ cruising towards a La Liga title and reaching the latter stages of the Champions League yet again.

Gomes, a £31 million signing from Valencia, has struggled to command a place in Ernesto Valverde’s side and was even booed by his own supporters during a vital 1-0 win against Atletico Madrid in March.

In an interview with Paneka, the 24-year-old admitted that his confidence has taken a battering – and he is even ‘ashamed’ to leave his own house at the moment.

So it should come as no surprise that Gomes has asked to be put out of his misery. El Mundo Deportivo claims that he has asked to leave with clubs in both the Premier League and Serie A likely to sit up and take notice. Gomes himself is keen on moving to England.

AS claimed earlier in the year that both Tottenham and West Ham were still interested in Gomes having failed with offers late in last summer’s transfer window, when Barcelona decided to keep him after initially missing out on Philippe Coutinho.

But with Coutinho now at the Camp Nou, joined by Paulinho and a deal for Brazilian youngster Arthur confirmed, Tottenham and West Ham would have it much easier if they make a new bid this summer.

Spurs have plenty of options already in midfield so West Ham could perhaps be seen as the favourites, given David Moyes’ desire to strengthen in the centre of the park.
