Championship duo Derby County and Brentford are both reportedly interested in signing Olympiakos’ Belgian centre-back Bjorn Engels.

Derby County could do with another option at centre-back if Saturday’s 4-1 home drubbing against Leeds United is anything to go by.
And Greek publication Sportime claimed that they were interested in the Belgian defender Bjorn Engels heading into last Thursday’s transfer deadline day. Interestingly, Frank Lampard’s Derby are not the only side in England’s second tier who have been linked.
HITC sources told us last week that Brentford had made a £4 million bid for Engels, who has been called up to the Belgium squad but is yet to make his international debut. He only joined Olympiakos from Club Brugge for £6m a year ago.
And although clubs in England are now unable to make permanent transfers, the likes of Derby and Brentford can sign players on loan until the end of August.
So the latest reports in Voetbal Nieuws should be of interest. It is reported that Engels is likely to leave Olympiakos in the near future with England perhaps his most likely destination.

The report adds, meanwhile, that he is still planning to leave the Piraeus-based club, who failed to win the Superleague title for the first time in seven years in Engels’ debut season.
If Olympiakos are willing to loan him out, or accept offers in the region of £4 million in January,, the 23-year-old could be an excellent addition for Derby or Brentford.
