The fact that Abel Hernandez’s contract at Hull City is due to expire this summer has apparently attracted the interest of Scottish Premiership giants Celtic.

According to Calciomercato, the Hoops have put a three-year contract offer on the table to lure the Uruguayan international to Parkhead and would even be willing to make him the best paid player in Scotland.

And Tuttomercatoweb are reporting that Hernandez is now considering Celtic’s proposal.

With a return to Italy also on the cards for the former Palermo striker, however, it remains to be seen whether Celtic can encourage him to make the move north of the border.

But what is almost certain is that Hernandez will not be a Hull player next season.

The 28-year-old stated as far back as January that he had no interest in extending his stay at the KCom Stadium with Hull struggling in English football’s second tier and, in the three months that have followed, there has been no suggestion of a U-turn.

And the Hull Daily Mail is very pessimistic about the prospect of Hernandez remaining on Humberside, rating the Tigers’ chances of keeping hold of their star striker at just 2/10.

This should provide further encouragement for Celtic that a deal could be possible.

Hernandez missed four months of this season with injury but has still managed to score seven goals in eight Championship starts.
