The 18-year-old will remain near the bottom of the German footballing ladder despite reported interest from Aston Villa.
Aston Villa may have spent big on yet another striker in the shape of Brentford goal machine Scott Hogan on transfer deadline day but, according to Bild, they were also in the market for one of Germany’s most exciting young prospects.
While the world champions’ esteemed production line continues to mass produce talented, nimble play-makers, the absence of a truly top class centre-forward continues to baffle, with Joachim Low forced to drag Mario Gomez back into the squad from the wilderness for Euro 2016.
However, excitement is building around 18-year-old Philip Wunn, whose outstanding performances for FC Saarbrucken in the German fourth tier have reportedly piqued the interest of renowned talent-spotters and Ruhr rivals Borussia Dortmund and Schalke not to mention Villa.

Yet, despite supposed the highly-rated teenager is unlikely to leave home any time soon. And even the most ardent Villa fan would struggle to find his reasons anything but heart-warming.
“I was suddenly under huge pressure [when the transfer rumours intensified,” Wunn, who was raised by his grandparents following the tragic death of his mother and father when he was just eight, told Bild.
“I didn’t know which club I was drawn to and that made the decision difficult.
“Then I decided to stay in Saarbrucken. It would also have seemed to me like treason to leave grandma and grandpa alone.”

Wunn is certainly a star for the future, however, meaning he will have to get used to this incessant speculation.
And, although Villa may be the third lowest scorers in the Championship, it is difficult to argue against the 18-year-old remaining where he is comfortable.
After all, bigger names and bigger talents have been lost to the system after making the step up too soon.
