Three Championship clubs, Birmingham City, Bolton Wanderers and Ipswich Town, reportedly want to sign Marcus Tavernier from Tony Pulis’ Middlesbrough.
Rangers right-back James Tavernier has been linked with a move all summer long. And his younger brother Marcus also appears to be a man in demand with just a few days until the transfer window slams shut until January.
The Mail reported in November last year that Tavernier junior was on the radar of Arsenal, Everton and Bournemouth after breaking into Garry Monk’s Middlesbrough side at the start of the 2017/18 season.
But the 19-year-old has found opportunities harder to come by under Tony Pulis. Tavernier has played just 47 minutes of Boro’s five Championship games so far this campaign.
And less than a year after being linked with Premier League clubs, Tavernier could now be heading out on loan in search of regular game time.
TEAMtalk are reporting that Championship trio Birmingham City, Bolton Wanderers and Ipswich Town are all interested in the England U19 winger. Interestingly, the man who gave Tavernier his break at Boro, Garry Monk, is now in charge of Birmingham.
The report adds that League One Portsmouth are in pole position to land the left-sided attacker. But with Aston Villa’s Andre Green heading to Fratton Park, according to the Birmingham Mail, it seems unlikely that Tavernier would be heading to the south coast too. They’re both left wingers after all.
So this opens the door for Birmingham, Bolton and Ipswich to scrap for his signature.
