Premier League strugglers Fulham need a new centre-back and could reportedly go for Croatian World Cup finalist Domagoj Vida in January.
Domagoj Vida might have missed out on a move to the Premier League in the summer but it seems he still has admirers in arguably the most high-profile competition in world football.
According to Fotomac, Fulham have expressed an interest in signing the Besiktas defender with the January transfer window set to open in a week.
Understandably, a new centre-back is a top priority for Claudio Ranieri, with Fulham’s defensive record leaving a lot to be desired. The Cottagers have conceded an eye-watering 42 goals in 18 games since promotion, although they did claim their first clean sheet of the season in Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Newcastle United.
And Fotomac believes that Vida, whose reputation skyrocketed after he helped Croatia reach the World Cup final in Russia, has emerged as Fulham’s number one target.
Strong, physical and commanding, the former Dinamo Kiev man would certainly enhance a defence that has looked far too open all season.
Fanatik claimed in the summer that Besiktas were demanding £30 million for Vida, however, so Fulham will be praying that they are willing to settle for less. Fortunately for Ranieri, Besiktas are in dire straits financially, having been forced to release Vida’s centre-back partner Pepe earlier in December.
