Former Chelsea youngster John Swift could return to West London, with Premier League newcomers Fulham reportedly hoping to sign him from Reading.

Fulham have been heavily linked with a move for Norwich City talisman James Maddison following their return to the Premier League with the Mirror claiming that the Cottagers are just one of many sides interested in the £20 million-rated Canaries ace.

But it seems that there is another Championship play-maker on Fulham’s radar, too.

The Reading Chronicle has reported that Slavisa Jokanovic’s side are tracking Reading midfielder John Swift and are even lining up a £12 million bid.

Swift has been plying his trade at the Madejski since 2016, when he joined from Fulham’s West London neighbours Chelsea.

The talented 22-year-old midfielder scored eight times and produced four assists as Reading reached the Championship play-off final a year ago, earning him a nomination for the EFL Young Player of the Year award.

But Swift, like many of his Reading teammates, failed to kick on last season. He scored just twice and set up one goal as the Royals were forced to wait until the final day of the campaign to secure their survival.

The England U21 international is a promising young creative midfielder, however, who could thrive working under a manager like Jokanovic, who got the best out of Tom Cairney and Stefan Johansen at Craven Cottage.
