Wolverhampton Wanderers brought Phil Ofosu-Ayew to Molineux in 2017 but he has not featured in the Championship or the Premier League.

You have to feel for Phil Ofosu-Ayeh.

While Wolverhampton Wanderers were cruising to the Championship title and celebrating a return to the Premier League, the full-back was nowhere to be seen.

Ofosu-Ayeh moved to Molineux on a free transfer from Eintracht Braunschweig in the summer of 2017; the same window in which Ruben Neves, Diogo Jota, Willy Boly and co arrived in the Black Country.

But an injury-hit debut season in English football meant he did not make a single appearance for Wolves in 2017/18. And there was very little fanfare when Ofosu-Ayeh was loaned out to German third-tier side Hansa Rostock on transfer deadline day.

The 26-year-old has a contract at Wolves until 2020 but, as it stands, it seems his immediate future lies elsewhere. The Birmingham Mail claims that Ofosu-Ayeh is unlikely to ever make his debut for the ‘Old Gold’.

The one-capped Ghana international is on his way to being one of the most forgettable signings made by Wolves this side of the century.

Although it is tempting to wonder what might have been if it was not for those injuries.
