Championship rivals Nottingham Forest and Leeds United are reportedly going head-to-head to land Lewis Grabban this summer.
Lewis Grabban was in fantastic form during the 2017/18 season, enhancing his reputation as a bona fide Championship specialist with 20 goals during loan spells at Sunderland and Aston Villa.
No wonder two sides who struggled to hit the net are allegedly interested now. The Nottingham Post claims that striker-searching Leeds United are interested in signing Grabban, who is surplus to requirements at parent club Bournemouth.
But Nottingham Forest reportedly hope to beat Leeds to his signature. Grabban is understood to be Aitor Karanka’s first-choice transfer target despite links with numerous other centre-forwards.
The Post is reporting that Forest have held further talks over a deal to bring Grabban to the City Ground in recent days and are hopeful that an agreement can be reached sooner rather than later if they can fend off Leeds.
There is a potential stumbling block, however. It is understood that Grabban is on Premier League wages at Bournemouth, so he could be forced to accept a pay-cut in order to seal a move to the former European Cup winners this summer.
But considering that his future at Bournemouth looks bleak, and he would be leading Forest’s promotion charge, there appears to be little reason to stay at the Vitality Stadium this summer.
And with Leeds seemingly edging closer to a £11 million deal for Derby frontman Matej Vydra, as reported by the Telegraph, Forest will be hoping that they have a clear path to Grabban now.
