Former Arsenal skipper and Manchester City coach Patrick Vieira could return to the Premier League this summer with Everton.

Arsene Wenger of Arsenal talks with Patrick Vieira during the Barclays Premiership match between Fulham and Arsenal at Craven Cottage on September 11, 2004 in London.

Patrick Vieira could be a Premier League manager next season, but will the 41-year-old Frenchman replace Sam Allardyce at Goodison Park rather than Arsene Wenger at the Emirates Stadium?

The former Arsenal captain has been one of the names heavily linked with taking over in North London this summer, with Wenger bringing an end to 22 years in charge of the Gunners.

But the Metro is reporting that Everton have emerged as a surprise potential destination for a man who is establishing a rather impressive reputation over in the MLS with New York City.

New York City FC head coach Patrick Vieira speaks at an interview with AFP during the club's annual media day on March 9, 2017, in New York.

Vieira moved across the Atlantic in 2015 after two years at the helm of Manchester City’s development squad and has made an impressive impact in America. NYC are currently second in the MLS Eastern Conference standings, two points adrift of league leaders Atlanta United.

And the Metro reports that Vieira has a fan in Everton’s majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri, who had a stake in Arsenal until 2016. The Iranian billionaire is understood to be keen on hiring an exciting young coach in the summer to replace the unpopular Allardyce.

Farhad Moshiri, Everton owner is seen prior to the Premier League match between Everton and Watford at Goodison Park on November 5, 2017 in Liverpool, England.

Goal had reported last week that he is still keen to bring Marco Silva to Goodison Park, having failed to lure the 40-year-old from Watford when Everton were looking for a permanent successor for Ronald Koeman back in the Autumn.

But Vieira, who has been earning rave reviews for his tactical flexibility and approachable man-management style, ticks a lot of boxes.

The Metro reports that Vieira has been earmarked for a future role at Manchester City, but they would not stand in the former Inter and Juventus ace’s way should he wish to join a Premier League rival.
