Monaco loanee Ruben Vinagre put in some outstanding performances as Wolverhampton Wanderers returned to the Premier League last season

If Ruben Vinagre does not return to Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer, his last game for the club would have been the FA Cup clash with Swansea City in January in which he was sent off.

The 19-year-old left-back did not make a single Championship appearance in the second half of last season as Wolves cruised to the title, but that does not mean Nuno Espirito Santo had written him off.

Instead, it was the outstanding form of Scotland international Barry Douglas that made it impossible for Vinagre to win back his place after he had served that suspension.

But if reports in the Express and Star are to be believed, there is a chance the teenager will be playing his football in old gold next season, too.

Wolves look to have snapped up fellow loanees Willy Boly and Diogo Jota but, as of yet, Vinagre’s future remains uncertain despite the Express and Star claiming previously that the club has an exclusive option to sign him this summer.

And even though he would only be a back-up to Douglas in the Premier League, there does not appear to be any obvious reason why a Wolves side with almost unlimited funds would not seize their chance to sign a young talent they believe can go all the way to the top.
