Premier League outfit Wolverhampton Wanderers had reportedly agreed a deal to sign defender Wallace from Serie A Lazio.

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ deal to sign Lazio defender Wallace has stalled due to work permit issues, according to Cittaceleste.

Just last week, Wolves appeared to be on the verge of reinforcing their backline with the addition of a Brazilian bruiser. La Lazio Siamo Noi claimed that Wallace had agreed a £6.5 million move to Molineux with the South American centre-half expected to become the latest Jorge Mendes client to join Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

But it has all gone quiet since. Why? Well, because red tape appears to be holding up the transfer.

Reports coming out of Italy today claim that Wallace’s non-EU status is making negotiations very difficult and, with just 48 hours remaining in the transfer window, time is certainly running out.

Maybe that explains why Wolves appear to be scouring the market for alternatives.

The Times claim that they have offered £30 million for Juventus’s Serie A champion Daniele Rugani. As the former Empoli starlet is an Italy international, there are no such concerns over the absence of a work permit.

Wallace was apparently very interested in a move to England, packing his bags with a smile on his face. But he, Nuno and Mendes will all be crossing their fingers with this deal set to go either way.
