Sam Byram is reportedly set to return to the Championship with Nottingham Forest, having found his game-time at Premier League West Ham severely limited.

From out of absolutely nowhere, Nottingham Forest seemed to suddenly be on the verge of signing Sam Byram on loan.

The Sun reports that the former Leeds United right-back is set to bring a temporary end to two-and-a-bit disappointing years at West Ham United by moving to the City Ground on loan, where he will replace the departed Eric Lichaj.

And reports in Football London have shed light on this fast-moving deal from a West Ham perspective. The report states that The Hammers have put Byram on a list of players they would ideally like to sell this summer following the arrival of Ryan Fredericks, which pushes the 24-year-old even further down the pecking order.

But it is understood that West Ham have not received a single bid for Byram. This is quite the fall from grace for a player some Leeds fans tipped to be an England international in the near future.

As a result, West Ham have now changed their stance and will accept loan offers for Byram – which explains why they are suddenly so willing to farm him out to Nottingham Forest.

Should Byram rediscover his mojo under Aitor Karanka and show why West Ham paid £3.8 million for him in January 2016, the London club would be in a much better position to earn some money from the seldom-seen defender.

West Ham, then, will be hoping Karanka can work his magic and return Byram to his Leeds peak.
