West Bromwich Albion reportedly made Jokanovic their number one target but will now go for Preston North End boss Alex Neil instead.
West Bromwich Albion have moved away from hiring Slavisa Jokanovic after they failed to agree terms with the former Fulham boss, as reported by the Mail.
Jokanovic was almost immediately installed as the club’s number one target after the controversial sacking of club legend Darren Moore in March and with good reason.
Not only is the Serb renowned for his attractive, attacking style of play, he has also secured promotion from the Championship on two separate occasions with both Fulham and Watford respectively.
But, according to the Mail, West Brom missed out on their ‘prime target’ as they could not agree terms.
This is not the first time a Championship club missed out on Jokanovic of late, the Sun (15 January, page 53) reporting that he turned down Nottingham Forest a few weeks after being sacked by Fulham while Stoke City tried and failed to appoint the 50-year-old.
The Mail reports that West Brom will now turn to Alex Neil and are willing to pay £650,000 in compensation to free the highly-rated Scot from his contract at league rivals Preston North End.
