Aston Villa were reportedly keen to bring Premier League midfielder Chalobah to the Championship during the January transfer window.

Aston Villa were interested in bringing Watford midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah to the Midlands during the final days of the January transfer window.
The BBC claimed that the former Chelsea youngster was on Dean Smith’s radar as he aimed to add a new option in the centre of the park.
Chalobah, who cost Watford £5 million in the summer of 2017, is very highly rated despite his lack of game time this season and was even handed a debut for England in November’s dramatic Nations League win away at Spain.
A move to Villa Park failed to materialise before last Thursday’s transfer deadline, however. And the Birmingham Mail explains that this is because Watford refused to let Chalobah leave Vicarage Road, even on a temporary basis, midway through the season.

It remains to be seen whether the 24-year-old, who has struggled with injuries of late, can re-establish himself in the heart of Javi Gracia’s midfield over the next few months.
Fortunately for Aston Villa, however, they did manage to bring in a new midfielder before the deadline with Tom Carroll arriving on loan from Swansea City.
