Leroy Fer was expected to swap Swansea City for Championship rivals Aston Villa in January but stayed at the Liberty Stadium.

Leroy Fer is open to extending his contract at Swansea City after a January move to Aston Villa fell through, according to Wales Online.
The Dutchman has been a consistently impressive performer in an inconsistent season for the South Wales side but came very close to leaving the Liberty Stadium two months ago.
Fer was set to sign for Aston Villa but the move fell apart on deadline day, with a hamstring injury apparently the central reason. Wales Online though have claimed that the 29-year-old was not exactly convinced by a move to the Midlands.
Fer apparently saw Aston Villa as something of a sideways step, with Dean Smith’s side failing to mount a convincing challenge for the play-offs. This is despite the fact that he was allegedly offered a gracious financial package.

The former QPR and Norwich City midfielder is now due to become a free agent at the end of the season. But Wales Online believe he is content with life at the Liberty and is enjoying the responsibility that comes with being Swansea’s captain.
An agreement over a new deal remains a long way off, but there is reportedly a confidence within the club that Fer would be happy to stay; although he could be tempted by offers from the Premier League if top flight clubs come calling.
