Premier League newcomers Sheffield United had a bid accepted for Queens Park Rangers defender Todd Kane when he was still at Chelsea.
Todd Kane is rebuilding his career at Queens Park Rangers but he could have been playing Premier League football with Sheffield United if a move to Bramall Lane hadn’t collapsed earlier in the year, according to talkSPORT.
Back in January, Chris Wilder’s Blades were starting to emerge as genuine promotion contenders and the opening of the transfer window provided an opportunity for the Steel City giants to reinforce their squad with the finish line in sight.
But, while Kieran Dowell, Gary Madine and Scott Hogan all arrived, Kane did not. Though that wasn’t for a lack of trying.
Kane was on loan at Hull City at the time but, according to talkSPORT, he very nearly cut his spell in Humberside short midway through the campaign. Sheffield United had a bid accepted by parent club Chelsea but, just as it looked like he would be heading to South Yorkshire, the deal fell through.
While Kane has admitted that playing Premier League football remains a dream after he failed to make the grade at Stamford Bridge, it is hard to imagine the former England U19 international forcing George Baldock out of Wilder’s starting XI these days.
He eventually joined Chelsea’s West London rivals QPR on a free a few months later and he has started six Championship games already with Mark Warburton’s side sitting pretty in fifth.
